A product intended for short-term use (e.g. during surgery to hold a plate in the correct position) or implantation to fix bone fragments.
It is made of metal and can be used in various ways: 1) as a serclage wire to provide bone fixation; 2) in the form of a loop or figure eight to secure, for example, the tip of the ulna (ulna), tibial tuberosity, or greater trochanter; 3) to reinforce the fixation of a bone screw or bone plate; or 4) as a Kirschner spoke (Kirschner wire) to provide rigidity (arthrodesis) to a toe or hand. The product is usually made of stainless steel, cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr), or titanium alloy.
The wire may be flexible or rigid/inflexible. It is a single use product.
