The KAMAZ-5490-DL is a dual-fuel semi-trailer tractor produced by PJSC KAMAZ — Russia's largest commercial vehicle manufacturer and a member of the Rostec state corporation. Built on the KAMAZ-5490 NEO platform, the DL variant runs simultaneously on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and diesel fuel, making it a flagship product in KAMAZ's gas-motor vehicle programme.
Power comes from a 401 hp (295 kW) Mercedes-Benz OM 457 LA Euro-5 inline six-cylinder engine, paired with an automated gearbox. The dual-fuel LNG system was developed in partnership with Dutch specialist Prins Autogassystemen B.V., one of the world's leading developers of bi-fuel engine systems.
A cryogenic LNG tank with a capacity of 450 litres gives the truck a range of up to 1,700 km on a single fill, while the gas-to-diesel substitution ratio of 60/40 keeps operating costs well below those of conventional diesel traction. The system is fully automatic — drivers engage it with a single button and the truck falls back to diesel automatically if LNG runs out.
The KAMAZ-5490-DL sits in the N3 vehicle category, has a 4×2 wheel formula, a gross vehicle weight of 18,600 kg, and a fifth-wheel load capacity of 10.76 tonnes. Safety features include ECAS electronic air suspension control, EBS, ESP, and ASR, while the high-roof Daimler cab with Webasto AT 2000 STC auxiliary heater ensures driver comfort on long-haul routes.
