The Model 61-4440 is a compartment sleeper railcar produced by Tver Carriage Works (TVZ), one of Russia's foremost rolling-stock manufacturers and a member of the Transmashholding industrial group. The car is designed for long-distance express service on 1,520 mm gauge mainlines and provides 36 sleeping berths arranged in nine closed four-berth compartments — the classic "coupe" configuration.
It operates at a design speed of 160 km/h over a 17,000 mm wheelbase, delivering a ride quality index of no more than 2.8 with non-bolster bogies. Body weight is 59.0 tonnes in carbon-steel execution and 58.0 tonnes when built from corrosion-resistant steel.
Thermal performance is strong: the average heat-transfer coefficient of the body shell does not exceed 0.95 W/(m²·K). Factory-installed systems include full air conditioning, a closed-loop eco-friendly toilet complex, a video and audio broadcasting system, a drinking-water preparation unit, and a trainline SKDU monitoring and diagnostics main.
Power is drawn from the 3,000 V DC trainline in motion, with switchover to external 380/220 V, 50 Hz AC at stations and fully autonomous generator-and-battery operation as a fallback. Service life reaches 28 years in carbon steel and 40 years in corrosion-resistant steel.
Compliance certificates have been issued continuously since 2008 and are currently valid through 2027, confirming uninterrupted compliance with Russian and CIS railway safety requirements. TVZ backs every delivery with a two-year manufacturer's warranty.
