Couplings are used to connect shafts or shafts with parts freely rotating on them (gears, pulleys, etc.) in order to transfer rotation without changing speed. Shaft connection is the main, but not the only, purpose of couplings.
Clutches are also used to switch the actuator on and off when the motor is running continuously, to protect the actuators from overloads and excessively high speeds, to transmit motion between shafts in one direction only, to stop as a brake and other functions.
Diaphragm design
Safety and reliability are fundamentals for high speed turbomachinery. Attention to every detail of design and careful selection of materials ensure that Metastream couplings perform perfectly in the most demanding applications. Metastream standard diaphragms (flexible elements) are made of AISI 301 stainless steel, which is characterised by high strength combined with general corrosion resistance.
