is designed to measure the distributed temperature of optical fibres in multimode and single-mode versions, embedded in a submersible downhole sensor cable. The distributed temperature measurement module based on Raman scattering is a system consisting of a sensing element and an interrogator.
The sensing element is a single or multimode optical fibre, standardly used for telecommunication applications. The interrogation device fires an optical pulse into the fibre line and measures the magnitude of the amplitude, backscattered Stokes and anti-Stokes components of Raman scattering from each fibre line interval.Processing the data obtained after sending a significant number of pulses, together with calibration data (obtained from a calibration section of fibre placed in a thermostat), allows the temperature of each fibre section to be calculated with an error of up to 0.1 C.
