The КС-ППЭ-2.5 Winterization (-40) is a certified marine life ring manufactured by MSS LLC (НПП МСС), a Russian developer and producer of individual lifesaving appliances for the maritime industry. The ring is designed to assist persons who have fallen overboard and is intended to equip sea-going vessels, floating structures, small craft, and coastal installations with mandatory individual rescue equipment.
Its winterized variant is engineered to remain fully functional in extreme cold down to -40 °C, making it well-suited for arctic and subarctic shipping routes. The hard plastic shell encases a buoyant polyethylene foam core, giving the ring a minimum weight of 2.5 kg.
With an outer diameter not exceeding 800 mm and an inner diameter of at least 400 mm, it fits standard shipside brackets. The ring delivers a minimum buoyancy of 14.5 kg sustained for at least 24 hours and withstands an external mechanical load of no less than 900 N.
A lifeline and retroreflective strips are fitted as standard, aiding victim visibility and retrieval in low-light or nighttime conditions. The product is certified in accordance with the SOLAS-74/96 Convention, the International Life-Saving Appliance (LSA) Code, the Rules on Equipment of Sea-Going Ships of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, and the Technical Regulations on the Safety of Marine Transport Facilities.
