The waterproof below-knee prosthesis for bathing is manufactured by ORTMED CJSC (ЗАО «ОРТМЕД»), a specialist prosthetics and rehabilitation center headquartered in Perm, Russia. ORTMED has been producing lower-limb prosthetic devices for both adult and pediatric patients and successfully underwent a Roszdravnadzor scheduled inspection in 2019 with zero violations recorded.
The company also won a state procurement competition in 2020 for the manufacture of lower-limb prostheses, including bathing variants. The prosthesis is purpose-engineered for use in water and high-humidity conditions — environments that pose unique challenges for amputees due to the risks of slippery surfaces and moisture ingress.
To meet these demands, the device is built on a modular architecture using exclusively waterproof components: water-resistant prosthetic feet, valves, locking mechanisms, and liners. This construction ensures reliable performance during submersion and showering without risk of corrosion or functional failure.
The prosthesis weighs no more than 2.5 kg, keeping it comfortable during personal hygiene routines. Its rated service life is at least 3 years for adults and at least 1 year for children, in line with Russian standards for prosthetic devices.
The modular design also simplifies component servicing and individual part replacement over the product's working life.
