The "Health Key" (Klyuch Zdorovya) is a self-service street vending machine for selling delivered artesian drinking water by the glass, bottle or canister into the customer's own container. Its manufacturer has been building and operating water vending machines since 2010 and runs a network of more than 200 machines of its own production in the Kirov region, where a purchase is made every five minutes; in 2006 the original kiosk system received a diploma from the UN-Habitat programme for creating an alternative water supply system.
The machine is designed for round-the-clock outdoor operation in an anti-vandal housing and connects to the mains power grid, drawing no more than 3 kW. Water is stored in a thermally insulated 5.8 m3 stainless-steel tank with a conical bottom that allows 100% drainage, plus dedicated filling and washing lines.
The dispensing bay opens and closes automatically to keep dirt out, a container-detection system prevents spills, and several heating zones (counter, dispensing bay and pavilion) keep the unit working through winter. The payment system accepts Russian coins and banknotes and gives change, while a GSM module reports sales, water level, temperature and alarm status to any computer or phone.
The design is protected by a utility-model patent and covered by an EAC declaration of conformity. The unit is 2,500 mm wide, 4,210 mm tall and weighs about 1.5 tonnes.
