Interrogators are used as part of a busbar condition monitoring system. Interrogators provide for the connection of fibre optic temperature sensors (FOTS) to them, the principle of operation of which is based on fibre Bragg gratings (FBR). The interrogator is used in conjunction with an FOD to measure the temperature of busbar contact connections. The FBR reflects radiation at a specific resonant wavelength of the SE. The SEs are mounted on the busbars.
The interrogator performs simultaneous recording of data from each connected SE as well as transmission of measured readings to higher-level devices. Interrogators register the spectral shift of the reflected wavelength and perform primary data processing. Interrogator is characterised by small dimensions (1U in 19 rack), large number of simultaneously interrogated SEs - up to 384 per one device.
