The RSM 1401 is a self-propelled forage harvester built by Rostselmash, the Rostov-on-Don agricultural machinery group whose history dates back to 1929. The machine mows standing crops or picks up wilted material from windrows, chops it and loads it into a transport vehicle, handling silage crops including corn at the wax-ripeness stage, sunflower and other coarse-stemmed crops, sorghum, and annual or perennial grasses and mixtures.
In state machine-testing-station (MIS) trials on corn silage it delivered 105-170 t/h with fuel consumption of 0.7-1 l per tonne, working with 3-6 m headers at speeds of 15-20 km/h. A four-roller feeder with four feed speeds gives chop lengths of 4, 7, 10 or 17 mm, while a 630 mm chopping drum running at up to 1,200 rpm keeps throughput high even at short cut lengths.
Stone and metal detectors are fitted as standard: the multi-zone metal detector pinpoints where a ferrous object was caught, feeding stops instantly, and the operator clears the object using hydromechanical roller reverse from the cab. Direct drive from the engine to the drum and accelerator saves up to 10% fuel, and turbocharged diesel engines allow the harvester to be matched to different operating conditions.
The Comfort Cab with climate control, onboard computer and panoramic glazing keeps the operator productive through long harvest shifts.
