The simulator is designed to practise skills of pleural punctures and drainage in pneumo- and hydrothorax.
The simulator is an anatomical model of the upper torso of a 12 year old child on a stand. The model has a convenient system of landmarks (clavicle, sternoclavicular-papillary muscle, large pectoral muscle, ribs with clear intercostal recesses) used in clinical practice. The tissues of the chest wall are as realistic as possible in their tactile and mechanical properties. On the inner surface of the thorax on both sides there are interchangeable hollow blocks (level of the 2-3rd intercostal space along the midclavicular line and the 4-7th intercostal space along the mid axillary line), which allows to perform procedures from both sides. The cavities of the blocks are communicating with an air blower, which is used to create different pressures.
