Lead (II) oxide forms crystals of two modifications: 1) ?-modification, lead glut, stable up to the temperature of 489 °C, red crystals of tetragonal singony; 2) ?-modification, massicot, stable at temperatures above 489 °C, metastable at room temperature, yellow crystals of rhombic singony.
Reacts with acids. Melting point is 886 °C. It is used in devices converting mechanical effects into electrical signals (direct piezo effect), electrical signals into mechanical signals (reverse piezo effect), electrical signals into electrical signals (sequential use of reverse and direct piezo effects)..
