The JC-2M Version 2 (ЖС-2М исп.2) is a solid-foam personal life jacket with an integrated protective collar, manufactured by NPP MSS — Marine Rescue Equipment, a St. Petersburg scientific production enterprise founded in 1996 by specialists from the Central Marine Research Institute.
Designed as an individual water rescue device, this jacket protects crew members and passengers of seagoing vessels navigating marine regions, as well as personnel stationed on offshore marine structures. The jacket provides both active and passive means of locating a person in the water, and includes a buoyant rescue line that allows trained responders to tow the survivor without removing the vest.
Its materials resist petroleum products and can withstand brief exposure to open flame (up to 2 seconds), making it suitable for demanding conditions including fuel spill scenarios. Weighing no more than 1.8 kg, the jacket maintains buoyancy for at least 24 hours across water temperatures from −1 °C to +30 °C and air temperatures from −30 °C to +60 °C.
A built-in water-activated signal light emits white light at a minimum intensity of 0.75 Cd across the entire upper hemisphere for at least 8 hours, while retroreflective panels cover no less than 400 cm² and the integrated whistle delivers ≥100 dB at 1 m. Produced under technical specification АР 01.011-00 ТУ (amendment 8, 22.05.2015), the jacket is certified by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RMRS) and fully conforms to the SOLAS-74 Convention, the International LSA Code, and Russian federal technical regulations for marine transport safety.
