The propeller steering column is a two-stage non-reversible conical gearbox with a hydraulic multi-disc clutch on the input shaft. The clutch is required to interrupt the coupling between the drive diesel engine and the propeller.
There are two propulsion engines installed aft of the vessel, one on the starboard side (hereinafter referred to as the LB) and the other on the port side (hereinafter referred to as the LB). Both drive engines rotate in the same direction - anti-clockwise, when viewed from the stern to the bow of the vessel.
The propulsion engines of the SW and LB rotate in opposite directions - SW clockwise, LB anti-clockwise. In order to realise multi-directional rotation, the designs of the upper gearboxes of the VPKs of the PrB and LB are different.
