Electrostatic filters is an electrostatic dust collector, in which the separation of suspended particles from gas occurs under the action of electrical forces by means of communication of electric charge to particles in the corona discharge zone with subsequent deposition of charged particles in the electric field on the surface of electrodes. Dust particles receive (as a rule) a negative electric charge in the corona discharge field and move under the action of the electric field to the grounded electrodes, settle on them and after regeneration of the electrodes are collected in hoppers.
A small part of dust, approximately 0.5-1 % of the total amount, acquires a positive charge and is deposited on the corona electrodes and is also periodically removed. The field of application of electrostatic precipitators is cleaning of gases coming from technological units of large capacity in coal thermal power engineering, metallurgical, mining, construction industry, etc.
