It is used as an optical communication cable for suspension on the supports of overhead communication lines, poles of city lighting, between buildings and structures.
The optical cable is made in the form of figure 8 and contains a core of modular construction consisting of a central power element around which optical modules and, if necessary, polymer cordel fillers are twisted. Within the optical modules there are up to 24 optical fibres. The total number of optical fibres is up to 288. The intramodule and intermodule space is filled with hydrophobic compound or other water-blocking material along its entire length. The core is bound by a winding of filaments. A fibreglass rod or steel cable or galvanised steel wire parallel to the core is used as a load-bearing force element. A sheath made of polyethylene, which does not propagate fire in group or single laying is applied on top of the core and the supporting force element.
