Diesel-generator consists of a 12D49 diesel engine and a GP-312 DC generator, mounted on a common frame and connected by a plate-type coupling. It is a four-stroke, twelve-cylinder internal combustion engine with a V-shaped arrangement of cylinders, gas turbine supercharging and charge air cooling. The end of the diesel engine from the side of the turbocharger, water and oil pumps is called the front, and the end from the side of the generator - rear.
If you look at the diesel from the rear end, the row of cylinders located on the right is called row B, and on the left - row A. The numbering of cylinders of each row starts from the rear end.The frame under the diesel and generator welded. The frame has a tank into which oil is poured.The cylinder block is of welded-cast construction with a flat crankshaft hanger connector.
The crankshaft is steel with twelve counterweights. Working surfaces of main and connecting rod journals are hardened.
