The Brake Cylinder 627 is a heavy-duty pneumatic actuator engineered by TRANSPNEVMATIKA OJSC — one of Russia's foremost manufacturers of railway braking equipment — for use in lever brake systems on locomotives. The cylinder converts compressed air pressure into controlled thrust force, transmitting it directly into the brake rigging to actuate the brake shoe assemblies.
The unit is built entirely from cast iron: body, front and rear covers, and piston alike, ensuring exceptional durability under the high-vibration, thermally demanding conditions of railway service. The self-centering rod is pivotally coupled to the piston, allowing natural alignment within the lever transmission and minimizing eccentric wear.
A rubber sealing cuff on the piston delivers airtight operation, while a felt lubrication ring extends service intervals. A mesh filter housed in the front cover shields internal components from particulate contamination in the compressed-air supply.
The rear cover includes a provision for mounting a dead-point bracket of the lever drive, enabling straightforward integration with existing lever brake systems. The cylinder operates at working air pressure up to 0.6 MPa (6.0 kgf/cm²), features a 356 mm bore and 190 mm maximum piston stroke, and has overall dimensions of 800 × 424 × 453 mm with a mass of 115 kg.
