The complete seal is supplied in separate parts, which are assembled on site. The seal between the inlet and supply spigots is a hollow box frame, installed around the perimeter of their flanges. It is designed to close the gap between the inlet and supply spigots when the mill is in operation.
Internal cavities of the seal are filled with insulating material (perlite concrete) at the place of installation. The seal is raised and lowered by four hydraulic cylinders. Moving the shut-off valve into the gap between the inlet and supply connections is done with the seal raised to its highest position.
When the cut-off gate is in the repair position, the seal is lowered onto it.
