The PHOTON arc protection system detects arc flash faults in switchgear and trips upstream breakers before the fault escalates — its reaction time to an arc event is no more than 75 ms per the specification. The system consists of a control panel and optical arc sensors, with up to 50 sensors supported in one installation.
Each compact sensor (36 mm diameter, 33 mm deep) offers a wide optical viewing angle of at least 60 degrees and mounts up to 30 m from the panel. The unit operates on two channels, applies current-based supervision with settings adjustable up to 500% of nominal in 1% steps, and keeps functioning for at least 4 seconds after loss of operational current thanks to its 220 µF energy store.
