Description

Butadiene 1,3 is used to produce synthetic rubbers, latexes, chloroprene and thermoplastic elastomers.
Butadiene is a gas with a characteristic unpleasant odour. It is insoluble in water, well soluble in benzene, diethyl ether, poorly soluble in methanol and ethanol.
Butadiene is prone to polymerisation, easily oxidised by air with formation of peroxide compounds accelerating polymerisation. In air with a concentration of 1.6-10.8 % vol. it forms an explosive mixture.
