Description
Ship trace-searching system STPS consists of trace-searching device TIEM and generator GT-50.
The tracefinder TIEM is designed to determine the spatial position of underwater pipelines and cables during measurements performed from a watercraft.
Generator GT-50 is required for excitation of current of certain frequency in the pipeline and formation of electro-magnetic field.
The principle of operation of the trace detector is based on the measurement of two components of the electromagnetic field created by currents flowing through the surveyed pipelines. Either currents of the pipeline electrochemical protection system (ECP) or currents excited in the pipe using a generator are used for measurements. Measurements are made in a horizontal plane parallel to the water surface. In the electromagnetic field sensors, located mutually perpendicularly, an EMF proportional to the value of the electromagnetic field strength is generated.
