Most storage models use enamelled steel tanks with a magnesium anode sized for aggressive water; stainless-tank versions are available at a premium. Suppliers recommend anode inspection roughly once a year in hard-water regions, and replacement anodes are inexpensive and easy to stock.

Beyond household sizes of 30 to 100 litres, several plants build storage heaters and water-heating tanks in the 200 to 1000 litre range, and jacketed cooking kettles from 50 litres upward for catering.
