Excitation system (ES) is a set of electrical devices (electrical cabinet), which provides control of excitation of the hydrogenerator in normal and emergency modes. It provides the hydrogenerator with automatically regulated excitation current. The excitation system includes the following equipment: excitation transformer; excitation panel; discharge resistance cabinet. At the small hydropower plant (SHPP) on the Paz River near the Janiskoski HPP, a SV-588/90-40 UHL 4 (synchronous vertical) hydroelectric generator is installed. Excitation systems, including modification STS-2E-225-775-2,5 UHL 4, provide the following operation modes of synchronous generators: initial excitation; idle running; inclusion in the network by the method of precise synchronisation or self-synchronisation; operation in the power system with loads and overloads permissible for the generator; excitation boosting with a given multiple in voltage and current; unloading of reactive power up to cos = 1
