On top of the fibreglass rods and the optical module between them, located on a common transverse axis, an outer sheath made of polyethylene or polymer compound, or polymer compound that does not propagate combustion, or polyethylene resistant to surface electrical breakdown (dielectric tracking) is overlaid
The outer jacket provides resistance to ultraviolet radiation.
