A set of products designed to stabilise broken bones, except vertebrae, to create the best conditions for their fusion. It typically consists of an external plastic and/or metal fixation device (framework) and other external and/or implantable components such as clamps, rods, rings, cams, sleeves, collars, bolts and nuts.
It may also include some tools (e.g. screwdrivers, spanners, drills).
It is mainly used for fusion of long tubular bones such as femur, tibia and humerus, as well as fractures of wrist, elbow, knee, hip and ankle bones, arthrodesis and limb lengthening. It is a reusable product.
