A non-sterile rod made of metal or other material that is inserted into the intramedullary canal of the femur to immobilise the ends of a broken bone in a position conducive to fusion. The product can also be used to reinforce bone in various pathological conditions and to perform knee arthrodesis. The product may be lockable or non-lockable, and may be provided with components designed to fix more proximal or distal portions of the bone. It is a single-use product that must be sterilised before use.
