Luminescence spectroscopy is actively used in gemology to verify the authenticity of precious and semi-precious stones, as well as to check whether jewellery has been pre-treated to increase its selling value. For example, a combination of Raman and luminescence spectroscopy is used to detect if gemstones have been pre-treated with temperature and high pressure.
