Active Steering Device BT18A for Reliable Control in Maritime Applications

The BT18A is a reliable means of active ship steering. BT18A is used on ships of unlimited navigation area with ice reinforcement up to "Icebreaker6". BT18A can be used on ships of various purposes with high requirements to manoeuvrability and dynamic positioning.

Such vessels, for example, are: cable laying vessels, tugboats and vessels servicing offshore oil and gas production facilities. The scheme of power transmission from the motor shaft to the propeller is L-shaped. By means of the frequency converter of the electric motor the smooth speed control and reversal of the propeller is provided.

The power of the electric motor is 700 kW. Generated traction force is 8.2 tonnes. Manufactured in accordance with RS norms and regulations.

To improve hydrodynamic properties and reduce resistance to vessel motion, the lower gearbox housing is made of complex streamlined shape.
