Three-section modification of the 2ES5S electric locomotive (the middle booster section is added, designed to ensure driving of trains of the installed weight of 7.1 thousand tonnes and more). Also, like the two-section version, it has the Ataman trademark. Maximum speed is 120 km/h.Key components of the locomotive, such as traction converter, auxiliary drive, traction motors, traction transformer and compressor equipment, bogies and control system equipment are manufactured in Russia.
A number of modern technical solutions have been applied in the electric locomotive design: 1st class traction transmission, traction drive with asynchronous motors with individual voltage inverters (axial energy-optimal regulation), microprocessor control and diagnostic system, anti-union protection, auto-driving system, distributed traction control and brakes for long trains.
