Metro cars models 81-725, 81-726, 81-727 formed into a train are designed for passenger transportations on the operating lines of the St. Petersburg Metro with a track gauge of 1520 mm, meeting the requirements of the code of regulations SP 120.13330, electrified by direct current (750 V) with power supply from the contact rail. The train is formed of motor head cars of 81-725 (Gm) models with control cabin located at the ends of the train, intermediate motor cars of 81-726 (PM) models and trailing non-motor cars of 81-727 (Pn) models. The basic - eight-car train formation scheme has the following configuration: Gm-Pm-Pm-Pm-Pm-Pm-Pm-Pm-Gm. It is allowed to form a train of seven wagons, and there should be no more than two non-motor wagons in the train. Motor cars of 81-725, 81-726 models are equipped with asynchronous traction drive and the main regenerative rheostatic type of braking.
It is possible to form a six-car train of the following configuration: Gm-Pm-Pn-Pn-Pn-Pm-Gm.
