Precision Lever Scales TRL15 “TRU-WATE” for Measuring Solution Density

The TRL15 "Tru-Wate" Lever Scale implements a method of accurately measuring the density of pressurised muds. Drilling and cement slurries often contain significant amounts of air or gas in the form of trapped bubbles. By increasing the pressure in the bowl, it is possible to reduce the volume of air bubbles in the sample to a negligible amount, thereby obtaining a reading of the actual density of the mud.

In this way, the density of the solution can be measured quite accurately, and the error is typically less than 1 per cent. The amount of air trapped may vary from 0 to 14%. Increasing the pressure in the sample bowl to 24 bar (350 psi) almost completely eliminates the density measurement error associated with trapped air.

The smaller the volume of trapped air, the less pressure must be applied to the sample bowl and the relationship is almost linear. In order to reduce the volume of trapped air by 75%, it is enough to pressurise the bowl with 3.5 bar (50 psi), for 99% - 24 bar (350 psi).
