The Nd:YAG laser active element is basically a rod made of synthetic monocrystalline alumina-ittrium garnet activated by neodymium with plane-parallel polished ends with optical coatings applied on them. Depending on the application, the elements differ in lattice orientation, activator concentration and type of coating. The element is the working body of a solid-state laser emitting at the main wavelength of 1064 nm.
