Typical MOQ for upholstered sofas is 1×20'GP container (10–14 units of 3-seater modular sofas) or 1×40'HQ (22–28 units). For OEM/private label with custom fabric, MOQ rises to 50–100 units per SKU. Small-batch (5–10 units) is possible from suppliers in Penza and Novosibirsk clusters but FOB cost per unit increases 15–25%.
•What upholstery materials are most exported from Russia and which suit humid climates?
Russian sofa makers use flax/cotton blends, eco-leather (PU on PES base), velour, chenille and microfiber. For SE Asia, MENA and LatAm humid markets we recommend microfiber (Martindale 40,000+) or PU eco-leather with anti-fungal backing. Natural linen is best for EU/US dry markets.
•Can suppliers manufacture sofas to EN 1021-1/2 (cigarette/match) or CAL 117 fire-retardancy standards?
Yes — most large Russian factories (DiVan, Pushe, Moon Trade) can produce to EN 1021-1/2, BS 5852 and CAL TB 117-2013. Add 7–12% to FOB price for FR-treated foam and certified barrier fabric. Lead time +10–14 days for FR-foam batching.
•FOB or EXW — which Incoterms work best for sofas from Russia?
FOB St Petersburg (Bronka/Ust-Luga) is standard for EU/MENA/LatAm; FOB Vladivostok/Novorossiysk for Asia; EXW factory only for buyers with local Russian freight forwarders. CIF rarely offered due to sanctions-related insurance complications. DDP available via Türkiye/UAE trans-shipment.
•How many 3-seater sofas fit in a 40'HQ container?
Knock-down (KD) packed modular sofas: 28–34 units per 40'HQ. Fully assembled bulky sofas: 14–18 units. For mixed loads (sofa + armchair + ottoman sets) we typically achieve 18–22 living-room sets per 40'HQ. Tonzar suppliers provide container loading plans (CLP) free of charge.

•What are typical lead times and payment terms?
Lead time: 25–45 days from 30% deposit (T/T) for in-stock fabric; 50–70 days for custom fabric/leather. Balance 70% against B/L copy or before container loading. L/C at sight accepted by larger factories. Escrow via Tonzar trade-assurance available for first-time buyers.
•How is the frame quality verified — kiln-dried wood, plywood class, metal gauge?
Reputable Russian factories use kiln-dried pine/birch ≤12% moisture, FK/FSF plywood E1, and 1.5–2.0 mm cold-rolled steel for mechanisms (Italian or Chinese-licensed). On request, suppliers provide moisture-meter reports, plywood emission certificates and mechanism brand confirmation (Leggett & Platt analogue, Pushe-Mech, etc.).
