The 2ES5C AC two-section mainline freight electric locomotive with asynchronous traction drive is manufactured under the import substitution programme and is a modification of the 2ES5 Skif electric locomotive (a joint development of Transmashholding and Alstom). Key components of the locomotive, such as traction converter, auxiliary drive, traction motors, traction transformer and compressor equipment, bogies and control system equipment have been replaced with Russian ones.
A number of modern technical solutions have been applied in the design of 2ES5S: traction transmission of the 1st class, traction drive with asynchronous motors with individual voltage inverters (axial energy-optimal regulation), microprocessor control and diagnostic system, anti-union protection, auto-driving system, distributed traction control and brakes of long trains.
